Road signs of the Apocalypse, case study on icon design

In this case study, I looked at icon design and the principles of small items presenting information. I decided that one of the best examples of conveying information was road signs, so I decide to make my own road signs but with my own twist. I decided on road signs of the apocalypse.
Here is my original rough sketches. Here I really aimed at quantity over quality. I sketched out 25 different apocalyptical events and tried to capture a road sign feel. I then found my favorite 12 and tried to organize them into different categories.
Here was my first rough draft. I played with color and shapes in this one and even had my first example of contrasting colors in the background of some signs. I talked to peers and received feedback. It was pretty unanimous, I would need to up the contrast on the secondary colors, fix some of the white space between shapes and ditch the circular shaped signs.
This is the final round of icons. Here you can see the transformation from my paper sketches above to stylized road sign for the apocalypse. There are still things I could change, but I will put this project to bed now in order to focus on different subjects. i might revisit this project again some time
Here is the final view, you can see each icon individually here
Example view of what it would look like.
